So my primary crafting goal for this year is to get back into scrapbooking full-time. I've been primarily making cards for the last several years; I loved it and I still love making cards. But recently, I've really been missing scrapbooking. So I decided to jump into the deep end of the pool and devote myself to it again.
I love the idea of pocket scrapbooking and I've purchased a few kits over the last year and even started a couple of albums. I definitely don't see following the Project Life concept of weekly layouts. I could have done that when my daughter was little, but now it's just me, hubby and the dog and that's not going to work. What I will do is pretty much what I've done in the past, one 12x12 album per year and additional theme albums where photos warrant it. I'll just pocket scrapbook them now.
I'm spending a good deal of time on pinterest and message boards checking to see what's going on in the world of scrapbooking these days. Wow! It's amazing how things have changed in just a few years. While I think the pages are beautiful, I'm definitely not into the latest trend of putting just one or two (or multiple small) photos on a 12x12 page and then covering the page in embellishments. How much do those pages cost?! Maybe not that much if you use leftovers from kits but I prefer to get lots of photos on a page, with some exceptions.
I've made a first pass through all of my stamps and dies, weeding out the ones I don't use anymore and don't see myself using for scrapbooking. I've put them up for sale on my blog and a couple of message boards. I have already sold quite a few but there's still a lot left. Check out the For Sale page on my blog. I plan on making another pass through stamps and dies, and through all my other supplies too. I so need to de-clutter!
I've decided to re-focus and re-organize my craft room for scrapbooking. I am the type of person that needs to see what I have or I forget about it. My craft room will attest to that fact. So I decided that keeping what I have in it's original packaging and tucked away in shelves or in the closet won't work. I need it out and looking pretty! I found this awesome tray at CherieBee:
This tray will contain all the pocket scrapbooking supplies for projects I am currently working on. For now, I've filled it up with the contents of kits I currently have. It didn't even fill up the tray - I love how much it can hold! I've cleared space on the shelves behind my desk for it so it will be easily accessible when I am working on a project.
Now for additional supplies, I'm loving the idea of the Ikea Raskog cart:
And I've just placed an order for a medium and a large organizer from Close to My Heart. I think these will be perfect for storing additional supplies and my large collection of 6x6 paper pads. I might get the small organizer too - it looks awesome for holding wash tape. I just don't have that much washi tape (yet).
Okay, so another one of the things I've been checking out is all the scrapbooking kits out there. LOVE! So much pretty stuff! And I am already getting sucked in. I have already subscribed to the monthly Studio Calico and Gossamer Blue kits. I'll have my new tray filled to the brim in no time.
Silhouette and Selphy
I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I have finally unpacked my Silhouette Portrait - I only bought it over a year ago! I love the small size. I've only played with it a little so far. I'm taking the Kerri Bradford online classes to help me get started with it.
I bought my Selphy about the same time as the Portrait and it's still packed up. But I hope to get it unpacked soon and give it a try. I've heard good things about it and I love the small size; but, I've heard that it doesn't print a true 4x6 and I'm not sure if I like that. I need to do some more research on it, try it out and decide if I'll keep it or not.
That's it for now. I just picked up my new Close to My Heart Spring/Summer 2014 Idea Book & Catalog and I need to start making my wish list. I love the new papers and the new Picture My Life products!
