Freshly Made Sketches #71

Hello!  It's that time!  Time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches!  Today's sketch comes from Linda Callahan and it's a fun one.  I almost never put tags on cards so this was a great challenge for me.    I knew right away I wanted to use a new stamp set I got in December which I hadn't inked up yet.

I had such a blast making this card!  I love that heart stamp!  Here is Linda's fun sketch:

Papertrey Ink January Blog Hop

I just had to participate in the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop this month because I couldn't resist the challenge:

I've been so into "white background" cards lately, that I thought it would be a fun challenge to switch it up.  And so, this is what I came up with:
I am so disappointed in how washed out the photo turned out.  It looks so much prettier in real life.  I haven't used my Delightful Dahlia stamp set in such a long time, and I enjoyed playing with it again.  I thought about coloring in the flowers, but I liked them as is.  Really, it does look so much prettier in real life!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Freshly Made Sketches #70

Hello my crafty friends!  It's time for another new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches!  Isn't January just flying by?  Today's sketch comes from Rita Wright and I love it!  I knew right away I needed to break out my poor neglected Winter Penguin stamp set.

We've been having a cold snap for the last couple of weeks here in Northern California and, while we don't get snow, it's enough to ice my car windshield every morning.  It sure feels like "penguin weather" to me.  So I just had to make a winter card using these cute little guys.  In fact, I made two cards!

Here is the awesome sketch from Rita - it's definitely a keeper!

Freshly Made Sketches #69

Hello my crafty friends!  I am so excited!  This week I am the hostess at Freshly Made Sketches and I am super excited to share my very first sketch with you!  But first, here is my card:

I went all pink and red with this card and used some pretty patterned paper from Carta Bella.  But I also wanted to keep the bling to a minimum so I oped for some glitter tape, cause ya know, I gotta have some sparkle!  Some awesome sentiments from Wplus9 ... bada bing, bada boom ... one valentine card!

And here is my sketch!

As you can see, I changed it up a bit with my own card.  What's up with that?  I don't know what was happening but those two little hearts wouldn't stay separated.  Really, it's true.  I put them down on the card, turned away to get some foam dimensionals and when I turned back, they were hugging!  It was so cute, I just had to leave them like that.  Hee hee.

You're Tool-rific!

Today I have a really simple, almost one layer card I made for my dad for his birthday.

I used the Tool-rific stamp set from A Muse.  What a great set to have for masculine cards, especially if your guys are the fix-it kind.  I cut a card base from PTI Kraft cardstock and stamped all over it with the different tools using Versamark watermark ink.  I love this on the PTI Kraft paper!  Then I stamped the screws and sentiment on a banner and added a pop of red.  Voila!

This card follows one of my crafty resolutions for this new year, and that is to make more mailable cards.  I realized while mailing Christmas cards last month that I had to add a lot of extra postage or specially wrap some of the cards I had made.  Kind of a pain.  So I'm going to try to keep my cards from getting too lumpy.

Today is my scrapping day.  My scrappy friends are on their way over right now and we'll have a full day of getting our scrap on.  I'll be working on my Project Life album (for a trip to Utah National Parks I took in 2008!).  Back to cards tomorrow!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

January Waltzingmouse Christmas Card Challenge

It's here!  The first Waltzingmouse Christmas Card Challenge of 2013!  This is one of my favorite challenges because it combines two things I love - making Christmas cards and Waltzingmouse stamps.  And what better way to start out a new year and challenge than with an awesome new sketch from Anya Schrier!

I knew I wanted to use my Festive Foliage pinecones so I went in search of the perfect patterned paper to complement them.  I found it with Simple Stories Handmade Holiday collection.  The rest just fell into place and soon I had my first Christmas card of 2013:

I tried to keep it simple and mailable.  This is one of my crafting resolutions for 2013.  I came up with this when I started mailing my Christmas cards a month ago and realized that I had to add extra postage to most of them and even put some in extra padded packaging.

I know I will still need to add extra postage to this card because it is square.  Oh well, I'm a work in progress here but, hey, there are no big pearls or rhinestones to poke through the envelope.

And this card can be easily duplicated.  After making this one, I cut out all the pieces to make three more and set them aside.  All I have to do is stamp and assemble.

So if you love Christmas and Waltzingmouse stamps like I do, I hope you join us this year!  It's a great way to get a head start on making your Christmas cards!

A new challenge will be issued on the 10th of each month in the Waltzingmouse Christmas Card Challenges Forum.  If you're not already a forum member, it's easy and free to sign up.  The guidelines are also posted in the forum - right here.

So get your Christmas mojo on and join us!

Freshly Made Sketches #68

Hello!  It's Wednesday and time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches!  Today's sketch comes from Jen Mitchell and what a great sketch!  I absolutely love this one!

I made this card for my sister's birthday.  I love the gingko leaves in this stamp set from Papertrey Ink.  And I think the little red pearls add a festive touch.

Here is Jen's awesome sketch:

Sending Warm Healing Wishes

I made the following card for a friend and fellow golfer who had breast cancer surgery the day after Christmas.

I like to keep encouragement cards simple, without a lot of embellishments.  To make this card, I started by perusing my Pinterest boards and picked out a couple of inspiration cards that I had recently pinned.  Then I searched through some patterned paper pads and found some really pretty, but subtle peachy-pink paper on a light gray background.  It matched Papertrey's Light Stone card stock so I went with that.  For my stamps I knew I wanted to use Paptertrey's Healing Touch Sentiments and the butterfly from their Love Lives Here set.  With that, I made my card.  I am very happy with how it turned out.  What do you think?

Here is the inside:

Freshly Made Sketches #67

Happy New Year from Freshly Made Sketches!  It's great to be back from our little break over the holidays.  We have an awesome new sketch to start out the new year from Jennifer Timko.  And I have to say, I had a lot of fun with this one!

Hee hee!  I have a big pile of 12x12 patterned papers that I have set aside to cut down into 6x6 squares for card making.  As I was going through it, I came across this cute, cute collection from Jillibean.  I decided it would be perfect for this sketch and perfect for a masculine Valentine card.  I even finished the inside:

And here is the great sketch from Jennifer:

Happy New Year!

Time to reveal my crafting resolutions for 2013.  I am pleasantly surprised that I actually did pretty good with my 2012 resolutions.  Where I did not do good was with my goal to do more scrapbooking.  So my only real crafting resolution for 2013 is to scrapbook, scrapbook, scrapbook!

I am already back to work on my trip to the Grand Circle (Utah's National Parks and Monuments) - I took this trip in 2008!  And I sent several hundred photos off to Walgreens (50% off all photos sale) for printing from this past year and my summer trip to the Minnesota North Shore.  I decided I am going to do all my journaling digitally and print them out.  I hate, hate my handwriting.  I love seeing some of the beautiful PL layouts out there with hand journaling, but, believe me, my handwriting is absolutely awful.

I currently have lots of Project Life product that I bought last year; so all I need to do is dust it off.  But there are a couple of new things I am doing this year:

  • I am taking the Studio Calico Day by Day online class for tips, techniques and inspiration.  I am really excited about this.  The class starts today.  I already watched the two videos and am excited to apply some of the tips from both of them, especially the one about adding text to your photos by Catherine Davis.
  • I have ordered a Canon Selphy CP900 photo printer from Amazon with a gift card I got for Christmas. I normally prefer to send out my photos for printing because of the cost.  I live near a Walgreens that has good photo printing and I usually just wait until they have a good sale.  But I think I will like the Selphy for specialty prints, like when I want something immediately while working on a layout.

Right now my craft table is covered with my Utah trip album and photos and other trip-related items.  Last night I worked on a plan for my title page that I am happy with.  I am really excited about getting back to doing some scrapbooking and I really like the Project Life products.

Well, that's it!  Let's see how it goes, shall we?  Now I'm off to Walgreens to pick up a few more photos!

I hope you all have a happy, wonderfully crafty new year!
