Holiday Card Workshop - Day 3 - Card 1

Day 3 is all about dry embossing.  I love dry embossing but I really don't do it much.  So I pulled out my embossing folders and looked through them.  As soon as I saw the swirls in the Divine folder from Cuttlebug, I thought of wind blowing and snowdrifts and knew right away what I wanted to do:

A lot of cutting and layering but I am very happy with how it turned out.  That's it for today!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Freshly Made Sketches #59 - Happy Halloween!

Hello Wednesday!  Happy Halloween!  And Happy Freshly Made Sketches!  New sketch time!  Today's new sketch comes from the amazing Cindy Hall!  When I saw this sketch I had to break out my new Googly Ghouls stamp set.  I wasn't going to get this set originally but you all wore me down with your amazing FMS submissions over the last few weeks using this set.  Cindy's sketch is just perfect for this card:

That's my last Halloween card for 2012.  I think.  ;-)

Great sketch!  I am envisioning a few Christmas cards using this one.  Thanks Cindy!

Holiday Card Workshop - Day 2 - Card 1

Day 2 is all about using background stamps.  Jennifer McGuire showed a technique for stamping continuously over multiple die cut pieces.

Here is my version of this technique:

There were several other techniques in the lesson that I used here: scalloping the edges of the card, die cutting through the front of a card, and using a sentiment banner to float a diecut snowflake over the opening on the front of the card.

This was a fun card to work on but it did take a while to do.  There is a lot going on with this card.  Plus it brought out my love-hate relationship with glitter.  The Diamond embossing powder is pretty cool but it is very glittery and I feel like I got it everywhere.  Seriously, I need a glitter and embossing station in my craft room so that I can keep my work table clean.  It'll be driving me nuts for days.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Holiday Card Workshop - Day 1 - Card 2

I'm back with my second card for Day 1 of the Holiday Card Workshop.  This one is my favorite.  I just love the tips for mass producing stamped cards.

I love one layer cards and I really like how this one came out.  I used Snowflake Medley from Papertrey Ink and chose an non-traditional color scheme.  I will definitely use this technique again!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!  And for those of you on the East Coast, stay safe!

Holiday Card Workshop - Day 1 - Card 1

Last year I signed up for the Online Holiday Card Boot Camp with Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner and guest designers.  It was a great class but I wasn't able to participate along with the class.  So this year, I decided to sign up for their Online Holiday Card Workshop and try a little harder to join in with the rest of the class.  I work full-time so I have no illusions that I will be able to keep up with the entire class, but I'm going to give a go.

And today I got my order from Simon Says Stamp which included the new Martha Stewart mini scoreboard.  OMGosh!  I love it!  It's the perfect small size and very thin too.  And it came just in time for this class.

Here are my cards for Day 1:

The first card is just one of a set of 3" x 3" cards with handmade envelopes.  I only made the one so far, but I will make more to match it for a set.

To see more about the second card, go to my second post here.

Eat, Drink and Be Scary!

Quick post today.  I was asked by a friend to make a Halloween birthday card.  I combined some patterned paper from Memory Box with some stamping to come up with this one layer card:

Love that zombie stamp!

I used his zombie friend and a couple of different sentiment stamps for the inside of the card.

Time for Holiday Tags

Today I have the first sets of tags for this holiday season.  I used the Tag You're It die from My Favorite Things.  It's a nice big tag.  MFT also has a matching stamp set which I used here for the sentiments on the tags.

My inspiration for the tags came from this post.  I used a leftover paper collection from last year - 25 Days of Christmas from Simple Stories.  I love the colors in these papers and they work perfectly with kraft tags.  I used a variety of embellishments - brads, felt, buttons, twine - and dies to decorate the tags.  I created 8 sets - 4 tags in each set:

Here are close ups of the individual tags:

And here they all are:

Now that I have broken the ice, I should be able to whip out some more holiday tags easy peasy, right?

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Freshly Made Sketches #58

Happy Wednesday!  My favorite day of the week!  Time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches!  This week's sketch is from our talented guest designer Narelle Farrugia, and I am super excited about this one.  It's perfect for my new Day of Gratitude stamp set from SU!

I love the large image in this set!  I inked it up with A Muse Studio pumpkin ink and then used a couple of Memento markers to add some additional color.  I love how it turned out!  I cut the image out, added a pearl and popped it up with foam dimensionals.  I added several pearls in the upper right corner like the sketch shows, but I just didn't like it.  It seemed to me to take away from the focal image, so I took them off.

Here is the awesome sketch from Narelle.  It's definitely a keeper!

Peace Love Joy

A quick post today with a set of four holiday cards I made really fast.  I saw this snowflake card by Anya Schrier and I couldn't resist CASEing it.  I switched it up a little but stayed with the same colors.  Blue and silver and snowflakes just seem perfect together.

Love these stamp sets from Wplus9!  I made three more of the cards and have added these to my Christmas card stash for the year.  I already have more than I need, but I know I'm no where near done making holiday cards yet!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Game On Bro

My brother celebrated his birthday earlier this month.  He's a gamer so I decided to make him a birthday t-shirt using the fun Masculine Graphic Tee stamp and die set from My Favorite Things.  And just a teensy bit of twine - no frillies or sparklies for my little (6'4") bro.

How fun is that?  And look, my latest favorite masculine colors - olive and navy.

I'm off to Vegas in a few hours!  Get settled in my room at Mandalay Bay and then off to pick up my registration materials for the IBM Business Analytics conference.  Then Monday morning I'll be joining about 10,000 other nerds just like me.  Woohoo!  Yes, I am that nerd.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Pink Christmas

Today I have my holiday card for the October Waltzingmouse Christmas Card Challenge.  The challenge for this month was to make a PINK holiday card.  Very appropriate for Pink October (Breast Cancer Awareness).  I chose to make a simple one-layer card.  I stamped a "quilt" using one of the stamps in the Waltzingmouse Nordic Winter set.  When I finished, I decided I wanted to cut it out and pop it up.  This is what I ended up with:

Maybe not technically a one layer card, but I like it so much better.

My peeps are popping over tomorrow for a fun day of scrapping and card making.  I'm really looking forward to it.

Then I'm off to Las Vegas on Sunday for the IBM conference next week.  I don't usually care for conferences and typically avoid going to them.  But the IBM conference is a great conference - very useful for my work.  This is my 3rd year going and I am really looking forward to it.  It's being held at the Mandalay Bay resort which has a huge conference venue.  I make sure to wear my most comfortable shoes because there is so much walking.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Freshly Made Sketches #57

Hello Wednesday!  It's time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  And today's sketch comes from our October guest designer LeAnne Pugliese.  When I saw this sketch, I had just gotten the new Witching Hour stamp set from Market Street Stamps and I knew immediately I wanted to use it with this sketch.  There are such fun images and sentiments in the set.  This is what I came up with:

How fun is that?!  And isn't that paper awesome?  I just love Authentique paper collections and Enchanted is no exception.  And what a great sketch!  Thanks LeAnne!

Freshly Made Sketches #56

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Today we have a new Freshly Made Sketch from Rita Wright!  I love, love the layers in this sketch!  I decided to use a stamp that I bought a while ago because I loved the sentiment.  But then it just sat because I didn't really know what I wanted to do with it.  Finally, the perfect sketch came along and this is what happened:

I decided to go with a masculine theme and colors - love olive and navy blue together - no frou-frou, no bling.  Love how quickly it came together - I credit the awesome sketch!  Thanks Rita!!

Freshly Made Sketches #55

Happy Wednesday!  It's time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  Today's great sketch comes from Jen Mitchell!  I am loving square cards lately; it's definitely not my norm, but it's working for me right now.

For this sketch I pulled out an old favorite, Spooky Sweets II from Papertrey Ink.  They recently came out with dies to match the stamp set so I just had to ink up that witch flying on her broom.  I went with a more recent stamp set for the sentiment.  Loving that patterned paper from W R Memory Keepers.

Here is the great sketch from Jen:
