Sweet Birthday Wishes

Last day of April!  Wow!  This year is just flying by!

Today's card uses two new stamp sets that I recently got from Papertrey Ink - Garden Variety II and Strawberry Patch Sentiments.  The sentiments set has the little strawberry stamp that fits perfectly with the leaves in the Garden Variety II set.  I was instantly sold on both sets.

Mom

Yay!  It's still the weekend!  And it certainly seems that summer is here in Northern California.  After Marley and I had a nice long walk, I settled in for a day of craftiness.  I made cards for my nieces who are graduating from college in May.  I'll post photos of the cards here later in May, I really like how they turned out.  After that it was a day of coloring - playing with my copics, fun!  You'll see those cards later this week.

I made today's card a few days ago.  I used Card Positioning Systems Sketch #262 which turned out to be perfect because it made it really easy to make a quick card.  Perfect for a week night when I'm usually tired from working and doing household chores after getting home.  Great sketch!

Happy Mom's Day

Another Mother's Day card today.  I'm really getting a good stash of these ready for work - sold one already.  With this one I used the new Winter Wisteria cardstock from Papertrey Ink.  I wasn't too excited that the new color released in April was a purple.  I really, really want a medium gray!  Then I saw Winter Wisteria in real life - very pretty purple. And it matched the patterned paper I used for this card, so I got to use it right away.  Check it out!

See the pretty "buckle" on the ribbon?  It's part of an awesome set of dies from Taylored Expressions - Fancy Buckles.  So cute!  Perfect for this sketch from Card Patterns - Sketch #162.

Bonjour

It's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge time again!  I'm still having so much fun with the French Country stamp set.  Loving it!!  Here's a card I made with French Country and Sketch #94:

I just love that background!  And the wide border is simply gorgeous!  It stamped beautifully the first time and what you see here was my first stamp with it.  Waltzingmouse stamps are such amazing quality.

With Sympathy

Today I have a sympathy card for a colleague at work whose father passed away recently.  I made this card larger than normal to accommodate all the signatures and messages that will be added to it as it is passed around the office.  I used Sketch #261 from Card Positioning Systems as my inspiration.  Great sketch!

I wanted the card to have a more masculine feel so I chose the teal and olive patterned papers from Teresa Collins' Fabrications collections.  I am very happy with how it turned out.

Happy Easter (a bit late!)

I know it's past Easter but I really did make this card before Easter.  I always forget about the monthly Waltzingmouse Blog Party and so I made this card a couple of weeks ago and have been impatiently waiting to join the party.  The theme for this month is "New Beginnings" so I chose to go with an Easter/spring card.

I was playing with my new Nordic Spring stamps and made this card in literally minutes.  That's what I really love about Waltzingmouse stamps.  They are really fun to play with!  And everything you stamp with them looks great!

I am participating in the Waltzingmouse Christmas Card challenge every month to build up my stash of Christmas cards throughout the year.  I've been doing great so far!  Today I have my Christmas in April card.  The theme for the card this month is to create a Christmas card with a bird or tree.  I used the birds in the Waltzingmouse Nordic Spring stamp set and mixed it up with the Nordic Winter and Compact Sentiments stamp sets.  I really like how it turned out.

Pocketful of Birthday Wishes

When I saw Retro Sketches #6 sketch, I knew immediately that I wanted to use PTI's Back Pocket Basics stamp set.  I bought it a while ago but hadn't inked it up yet.  A very cute stamp set and a really awesome sketch!

The pocket drove me a little crazy.  I wanted to heat emboss the stitching but I kept smearing the white ink when I pulled the paper off the stamp.  After ruining five pockets, I finally used a tweezers.  Duh! Should've done that the first time.   The embossing turned out great and it looks almost like real stitching.  I really like how the card turned out.

I recently got some new stamps from Market Street Stamps, including a coffee set.  While I think coffee stamp sets are really cute, I just didn't think I'd use them much.  But this set sold me right away when I saw it included a Happy Retirement sentiment. It seems I need to make more retirement cards these days.

Hope Your Birthday Rocks

I made today's card for the Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge #155.  I recently got the You're My Hero stamp set because I thought it would be great for making teen cards, but now I think it would make great cards for "old" rockers too. ;-P

I paired the stamp set with an awesome glitter paper collection to make this card:

I don't usually care for glitter papers but this 6x6 paper collection - Rock Star by Best Creation Design -  is really cool!

While making this card, I had a "goof" that turned into a cool thing.  I stamped the images on the music paper first with a dye ink that I stamped off on scrap paper first so the image would appear as a shadow.  And, assuming that the dye ink dried immediately, I proceeded to stamp the sentiment with a black pigment ink, and poured on clear embossing powder.  When I tapped off the excess embossing powder, I saw that it not only stuck to the sentiment put also to both images.  Ack!  Not what I intended.  Oh well, what could I do now.  I applied heat and waited to see what happened.  It actually turned out pretty cool, the shadow images were lightly embossed and looked great (at least I think so).  Whew!
