I Heart U

I used another Viva La Verve sketch to make the following card.  Again, I used some of the pretty papers from October Afternoon Sidewalks collection.  These papers are so fun!

I die cut the letters and heart in patterned paper and chipboard using the Verve I Heart You die set.  I can't believe this is the first time I've used these dies.  I have to say that I think this is my favorite card this month.

Another relaxing weekend ahead.  The weather is totally awesome right now here in NorCal.  I took Marley for a nice long walk this morning.  I noticed that some trees are threatening to bud and some flowers are already peeking out too.  Guess it's the extremely mild winter we are having so far this year.  Here is a picture I took of Marley.  She's getting pretty used to me taking pictures of her now.  I took this picture with my iPhone 4s.  Awesome camera!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Make It Monday - Shaker Card

I have to say that Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday challenge this week looked easy and fun.  This week's technique is making a Shaker Card.  I've never made one before so I thought I'd go for it.  I already had fun foam but no confetti so a trip to Michaels was in order.  I know I could make my own but I wanted to go with a St. Patrick's theme and I wanted sparkly clovers.  I found some other kinds of glitter there that I had to have too.  Wink, wink.

Here is what I came up with:

Okay, so it wasn't as easy as I thought, I was clearly adhesive-challenged.  Maybe I need to invest in a Xyron sticker machine cause it looked really easy when Heather used it in her video.  And how do you not have your glitter stick to the inside edges?  Yes, I am adhesive-challenged.  I need to practice this more.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Holiday Style

When I was going through my patterned paper pads this weekend, I came across Holiday Style by October Afternoon.  I got it after I had already made my holiday cards and projects for 2011 so I just put the pad away with my other ones.  But looking through it now,  I came across this paper:

I just love these colors!

I decided to make some more holiday cards for 2012 using the bottom half of the page and some other paper in the collection.  I made the cards super simple and mailable:

I made 6 of these cards.

Then I made 2 cards using the top half of the papers.
I'll probably add something to it, but haven't decided what yet.

I look forward to making more projects with these beautiful papers in this collection.

Have a great day!

With Love

It's a rainy weekend here in NorCal; perfect for hunkering down in my craft room with a cup of hot cocoa.  Add a little relaxing music and the creative juices are flowing.  I grabbed one of my many 6x6 patterned paper pads and used the Mojo Monday sketch #224 to make the following card.  In fact, I made four of them.

I do love my patterned papers!

The NFC Championship game starts soon and our 49ers are playing the NY Giants.  I'm not a huge football fan but I feel like I need to cheer/support our local team.  I popped a roast in the slow cooker this morning and it should be done by the end of game.  It's smelling pretty good right now!  For now, I'm headed back to the craft room to make more cards and I'll check in on the game later.

Have a great day!

Make It Monday - Ghost Masking

I haven't participated in Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday challenge in a long, long time, but I watch the technique videos every week and have filed many away for future reference.  However, this week's technique of Ghost Masking is so amazing, I had to give it a try right away.

This is what I came up with:

I really like this technique.  I think it's easy to do but somewhat time-consuming.  And I love that you end up with a one-layer card that doesn't look like one.

Have a great day!

January Birthdays

Both my little sister and my dad's birthdays are in January.  I made their cards back in December, before the holidays and, since they live in Minnesota, I thought nice cozy snowman cards were in order.  And the new Papertrey Ink Shape Up Snowman stamps and die were perfect and my inspiration was this card by Nichole Heady.

Who knew then that Minnesota would have unusually warm weather in January and hardly any snow.

Project Life - Catching Up

Yesterday, I finally spent some time to start my new Project Life album.  Actually, I'll be working on two albums: one to play catch up from 2009 thru 2011.  And the other will be for 2012.  I'm not planning on following the normal Project Life process of creating two-page layouts for each week of a year.  That just isn't going to work for me, an empty nest mom.  I do plan to use it to scrapbook and document our lives, like I did with traditional scrapbooking.  Here is the title page for the catch up album:

If I can find a good picture of my husband, I'll slip it in there too.
He notoriously hates getting his photo taken so they are hard to come by.

I used two of the digital elements to add the title card
and journaling card shown here.

I love that Project Life comes with digital elements which makes the journaling easy and the album can still be matchy-matchy.  You will rarely see my handwriting in my albums - I hate it!  I will definitely be taking a hybrid approach - using a mix of digital elements and paper elements.

Sorry for the quality of the photos here.  I really need to figure out how to photograph these pages.

I am really looking forward to building these new albums.

Have a great day!

WMS Christmas Card Challenge - January

Yes, that's right, Christmas cards!  I have decided to join in the Waltzingmouse Stamps Christmas Card Challenge.  This is perfect because it covers two of my crafting resolutions for 2012: participate in challenges and start my holiday projects early.  On the 10th of each month, a challenge theme will be announced.  The one for this month is to create cards that highlight a day or night sky.

How perfect!  I just got the Poppy Stamps Grand Madison window die and hadn't used it yet.  I found some night sky paper with stars and snowflakes on it, so I added a couple of embossed snowflakes from the WMS Very Vintage Christmas stamp set.  And see the pretty flourish border? That's from the same stamp set.  So pretty!  The sentiment is from another WMS stamp set called Nutcracker Sweet.

I made 4 of these cards which is what I normally do when I make holiday cards.  That way I still have a number of different designs but get more cards done quickly with some mass production.  I also make most of my holiday cards fairly simple and mailable.  I have a lot of holiday cards left over from 2011 so my goal this year is to make 4 cards a month.  That way I should have plenty for our annual craft fair at work and for myself.

If you would like to join in, check out the Waltzingmouse Stamps blog or the Waltzingmouse Stamps Forum.

Have a great day!

Daydreamer CASE

Another CASE today.  I was wowed by this card by Betsy Veldman.  She is certainly one of my favorite designers, I love her style.  I was immediately attracted to the patterned paper as I have the same paper.  And I love the Daydreamer stamp set by Papertrey Ink.  I haven't used it much lately so I thought it would be fun to duplicate what Betsy did with the stamps.  I really like how it turned out and I have to say when I was done I was thoroughly impressed with the talent of Ms. Veldman.

Two Hearts

I am loving Pinterest!  I find so much inspiration there.  I can see already that I will spend too much time there!  I found this card by Betsy Veldman and decided to CASE it:

I am off and running on Valentine projects now.  I have already come up with a design for kids' valentines for school or friend swaps.  Several colleagues at work have young children and are interested in buying some.  I just think they are fun to make!  I have one order for 25 of them and will probably make them this weekend.  So I'll probably post some photos next week.

I'm also getting ready to start my first Project Life album.  I'll have a separate post about that later.

And . . . I'm already thinking about Christmas again.  What!  Yup, I decided that I want to create Christmas projects in bits through the year instead of waiting until October.  Waltzingmouse Stamps has already come out with their first Christmas Card Challenge of 2012.  So I plan on joining in.

Have a great day!

Smash Book!

Last week while I was searching online for Project Life inspiration, I came across this video:

Why have I not seen this before?  It looked like fun and a great way for my daughter Kim to record her musings and save mementos.  Now my first thought was, I can make my own smash book journal and I already have all kinds of stickers, stamps, etc.  But I'm pretty lazy and often prefer to just buy instead of make, so who knows when I'd ever get around to that.

When Kim came over on Saturday, I showed the video to her and she loved it!  So off we went to my local scrapbook store to find one for her.  They had a red one and a green one in stock.  Kim got the red one.  I really liked the green one so decided to get one for me too.  And, of course, we had to get some of the accessories to go with them.

Heart Canopy Tree

Last week my local scrapbook store got the latest collection of Memory Box dies - Love and Kindness.  Yikes!  I wanted them all, it was so hard to choose just a few.  Two of the dies I got were Heart Canopy and Twiggy Tree and these were the first I used.  And wouldn't all those little hearts be cute on a shaker card?  I might have to try it (if I weren't so lazy).

 Look! No patterned paper!

Farmhouse Birthday

One of the recent new paper pads I got is the October Afternoon Farmhouse collection.  Wow! What a gorgeous set of papers.  Perfect for a card that takes advantage of coordinating patterns.  And when I saw this card at The Sweetest Thing blog, I knew I had to use that layout for this card:

The hard part was picking which patterns to use.  I used the 8x8 paper pad for the card, but I also bought many of the papers in 12x12 because I have an idea for a bound card holder that I might try later.

As usual, I made two cards; one will be used later this month for a friend, the other will go in my stash for sale or use later.

My 2012 Crafting Resolutions

I am not very good at keeping my New Year resolutions for very long, but I always have good intentions.  Here are my crafting resolutions for 2012:

SCRAPBOOKING: Before I got into stamping and cardmaking, I was into scrapbooking big time.  I have dozens of albums as proof.  But when my daughter moved out, I found that I was making a lot of scrapbook pages of Marley.  As cute as she is, you can only do so many scrapbook pages of the dog, so cardmaking became my creative outlet and, boy, did I jump in with both feet.  It's not like I have nothing to scrapbook - I still have many older photos and some recent new ones - so it's time to start up again.  When I saw the Project Life scrapbooking kit by Becky Higgins, I thought this would be a great jump start into scrapbooking again.

BLOGGING: I think I did a pretty good job of updating my blog this past year, I had over 100 posts.  But I definitely slacked off during the last couple of months of the year as I got caught up in holiday preparations.  So this year I plan to keep up the postings and to be better prepared for those crazy holiday months.

HOARDING: I do like my crafting supplies and I do buy a lot.  Since I've gotten into stamping and cardmaking, I've experimented with numerous products and techniques.  Some were keepers and some were not.  So it's time to take a look at what I have and make some decisions about what I use and don't use (and likely will never use).  It's taken a little while to find my style, but I think I'm there now, so it's time to sell or give away what I don't use.

HOLIDAY CRAFTING: To prevent stressing out over the year end holidays, I would like do a little holiday crafting throughout the year.  There are numerous holiday challenges out there that I think will help and I also have been using Pinterest to tag holiday crafting ideas, so I think I can do it.

CHALLENGES: I participated in a few crafting challenges in 2011 and it was really fun.  I'd like to do more.  I think they really help to get the creative juices flowing.  Maybe this year I might even submit to some magazine calls.

Well, that's it!  Let's see how it goes, shall we?

I hope you all have a happy, wonderfully crafty new year!

Happy New Year!

I hear the fireworks in the background and Marley is grumbling about it.  I am sitting here with hubby watching the celebrations on TV, sipping champagne and eating sauerkraut with pork (my family's traditional meal to ring in the new year).  Welcome 2012!

And to welcome the new year and my one year blogging anniversary, I gave my blog a face-lift.  A fresh new look to start the year off right!

Here's to new adventures in paper crafting in 2012!

I hope you have a blessed new year!
