Merry Monday #26

Hello Weekend!

I recently found another great Christmas card challenge - Merry Monday.  Great name!  The creator and host of Merry Monday is Lesley Croghan, who also manages the Freshly Made Sketches weekly challenge.

This week's sketch is a great one and I decided to use it to make a set of Christmas cards.  I've been making a few card sets lately, but this is my first Christmas card set.  I used one of my favorite holiday pattern paper collections - October Afternoon's Holiday Style - which is a fun retro style.  This is the set I came up with:

I re-purposed a clear box that my Papertrey Ink stamps came in, replacing the box banner with one of my own making.  I used some bitty dot paper and Holiday Style shape stickers.  There are 4 cards in the box:

Sorry about the quality of the photos, they seem a little blurry - or maybe that's just me.

Since we're on the subject of holidays, I recently bought my first Halloween paper collection and my first Christmas paper collection of this year.  It's starting!  Soon it will be the holiday push again!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Patterned Paper:  October Afternoon Holiday Style

Two Hearts Become One

Recently, a good friend of mine needed a card for an Edwardian-themed wedding.  I had to do some research online because I wasn't sure what "Edwardian" was.  Well, I know all about it now; but sadly, I don't really have anything in my stamp or paper collection that I was convinced was "Edwardian."  I immediately thought of my Graphic 45 paper collections - there must be something there I could use.  I found some gorgeous papers in the Olde Curiosity Shoppe that I thought would work.  This is what I came up with:

I just love the look of layered scallops and I think they look really elegant here with these papers.  I have to admit that I started out with a bow on the card, but then I started fussing with it until I ruined it beyond repair.  And, of course, I had already adhered the papers to the card base, so I just tied it into a simple knot.  Most of the time I am really happy with my bows, but not this day.  Sigh.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Freshly Made Sketches #41

Happy Wednesday!  Time for a new Freshly Made sketch!  Sketch #41 is from Cindy Hall, her first one.  Way to go Cindy - great sketch and just what I needed to make a birthday card for my niece!

Ally recently celebrated her 16th birthday and will be getting her driver's license soon.  This was the perfect time to use a new stamp and die set I recently got from My Favorite Things - Vanity License Plate:

How cute is that license plate die cut?  I chose some pretty, brightly colored papers and kept it simple - not even a speck of bling.  What?  I can do it -- sometimes!  ;-)

Please stop by Freshly Made Sketches and check out the wonderful creations from the Clean Team!  I hope you play along with us!  I can't wait to see your take on the sketch!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Playing with Hexagons!

I have been playing with my new hexagon die from Papertrey Ink almost the whole weekend.  I can't stop!  Using the Cover Plate: Hexagons die, I cut lots of hexagons from some of the Pure Poppy, Enchanted Evening and Fine Linen patterned papers, also from Papertrey Ink.  Love these patterned paper collections!

I used the frame left after poking out all the hexagons as a template to place the patterned paper hexagons.   Then I popped a few of them up with foam dimensionals.

For these cards, I glued the hexagon frame onto a Kraft card base and added the patterned paper hexagons covering the entire card front:

I haven't figured out what to do with these beauties yet!  I don't want to cover up any part of them, maybe I'll add ribbons and small tags.  For now, I just want to admire them!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Christmas in June

It's time for another Waltzingmouse Christmas Card Challenge!  Oh, and they threw for me for loop this time.  The challenge this month is to SEW on your card.  Aack!  I'm so not good at sewing.  I used to sew a lot when I was young - I made a lot of clothes for my Barbies back in the day - but that was a long time ago.  But I was a trooper and went for it!

I've been wanting to use this Melissa Frances paper collection for a while so I thought the time had finally come.  I took one of the patterned papers and cut a corner off and then sewed that corner onto another patterned paper.  I really like how it came out but I kind of wish I had a red or green thread to use.  I would have really liked to add a ribbon but I wanted to keep it mailable so I limited myself to adding a few jewels.

I made three of these cards (I ruined the 4th one!).  You should really check out the Waltzingmouse Christmas Card Challenge.  It's a great way to get your Christmas cards done early!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Freshly Made Sketches #40

Happy Wednesday!  Time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches!  Sketch #40 is from super talented Lesley Croghan - what a great sketch!  I knew I had to use it to make this anniversary card for my sister and her husband:

I've had this adorable stamp set from Wplus9 that I hadn't inked up yet - what was I waiting for?  How cute are those birds?!  And that purple in real life is so pretty!  My sister likes purple so I used a lot of it.  The photo really doesn't do it justice.

The card is in the mail but my sister does read my blog so there's a good chance she'll see this post before she gets the card.  I hope she doesn't mind; I just couldn't help sharing it now.

Won't you play along with us?  Be sure to stop by Freshly Made Sketches and see what the talented Clean Team has created.  You can't help but be inspired to play along!

Happy Father's Day!

A quick post today with the Father's Day card that I made for my husband.  We both like to hike with our dog so I thought I would use the new Summer Camp stamp set from Papertrey Ink to create a scene.  I think he'll like it.

My card was inspired by this card by Heather Nichols and found on her blog here.

Freshly Made Sketches #39

Yee-haw!  Time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches!

My card today is a special one - it's the one I sent to my dad for Father's Day.  Kinda silly for a 78 year old man, right?  Actually, I think it's just perfect.  When I saw this stamp set from Paper Smooches, it immediately brought back a lot of memories - my dad was a farmer until I was about 6 or 7 and stayed in the farming business until he retired.  I don't remember my dad ever wearing a hat like that, but I do remember the overalls and the farm life.

This cute stamp set is called Green Acres - I know you older bloggers remember that TV show, with Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor.  I think it's on the TV Land channel now.  I so remember the family sitting around the TV and watching Green Acres.

So, you see, I just couldn't resist making my dad a card using this stamp set.  And, of course, I had to use a Freshly Made Sketch.  Sketch #39 is hosted by the awesome talented Jen Mitchell and is just perfect for this Father's Day card.

Be sure to check out the other DT creations at Freshly Made Sketches this week and play along with us.  I'd love to see your take on this sketch!

What's the Buzz?

Hi there!  The weekend is done and I am beat.  It's been a busy weekend and I didn't have a lot of crafty time.  But I did manage to do a little playing with a stamp set that I got a while ago but never inked up.  I also played with some of the new Memento ink colors - love them!  I made a couple of fairly quick one layer cards (same design):

The Toffee Crunch and Olive Grove ink pads were a little too juicy, but I do really like all the new colors. On this card I used Toffee Crunch, Olive Grove, Teal Zeal, Peanut Brittle, and Morocco for the patterns inside the hexagon outlines and the little bee; and Espresso Truffle for the hexagon outlines and sentiment.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great week!

Freshly Made Sketches #38

Hello!  It's Wednesday!  And that means it's time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

Today is my first assignment as a design team member for Freshly Made so I am really excited to share my card.  Sketch #38 is hosted by the very talented Linda.  When I saw the sketch I knew right away what I wanted to do.  I just got the Circle of Honor stamp set from Paper Smooches and wanted to play with it.  And since I didn't get a card made in time for Memorial Day, I thought I'd still make one anyway.  This is what I came up with:
